A few notes on how this site is made.
A static site built with Astro and served from Cloudflare Pages. There is no framework runtime. Every page is plain HTML, with small scripts only where something moves.
The forest
The landing has no images. The treeline, circuit rails, moon, and sky are drawn as SVG in the browser, and the seven firs are the navigation. The light and dark palettes come from a business card, and the default follows Beppu's clock, turning dark after sunset.
Type and motion
Set in Fraunces and Spline Sans Mono, both self-hosted. The moon phase is computed for Beppu with SunCalc, and the weather comes from Open-Meteo. The animations pause for anyone who prefers reduced motion.
The moving parts
The guestbook and the password-protected resume run on a small Cloudflare Worker backed by D1 and KV. Pages change with view transitions, so moving around does not reload the whole document.

Secrets
The forest keeps a few. The firs can be walked with the arrow keys. A cat naps somewhere on every page. And an old code (↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A) makes it rain something other than rain.
