Colophon
How I made this site, for anyone curious.
- built with
- Astro, plain HTML and a few small scripts
- hosted on
- Cloudflare Pages
- letters, resume
- a Cloudflare Worker with D1 and KV
- type
- Fraunces and Spline Sans Mono, served from this site
- weather, moon
- Open-Meteo and SunCalc, both for Beppu
The front page
I drew the front page in code instead of using pictures. Your browser draws the trees, the hills, APU on the ridge and the lake when the page opens, and seven of the trees are the links to everything else.
It runs on Beppu time. If it's after sunset here, you get the night version with the moon as it really is tonight, even if it's noon where you are. The weather is Beppu's too. When someone leaves a letter, it floats on the lake as a paper boat until five newer ones push it off.
The colours
The paper and the ink come from my business card. I gave the other three one job each.
- paper the background
- ink the text, the trees, the night
- moss links and headings
- sage quieter text, the hills, the water
- amber people only: the boat's lantern, APU's lit windows, my replies to letters
Things to find
- On the front page, the arrow keys walk you along the trees.
- Add #turn to the front page address and you can drag the day from morning to night.
- The cat in the footer is made of letters. It sleeps after dark, and sometimes it walks across the bottom of the page.
- Type ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A anywhere, or type meow.
